Canadian Tire Centre

For over twenty years, the Canadian Tire Centre has brought entertainment to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

The venue opened in 1996 as The Palladium and was primarily used for ice hockey, serving as the home arena for the NHL’s Ottawa Senators since its opening days as well as the temporary home for the Ottawa 67’s of the Ontario Hockey League during renovations to their home arena. It also featured an arrangement that made it a perfect location for concerts, including appearances by big-name stars including AC/DC, Alanis Morissette, Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, Ariana Grande, David Bowie, Depeche Mode Kenny Chesney, Coldplay, The Eagles, Foo Fighters, and more.

The original plan for developing the venue came about as part of a bid to land an NHL franchise for Ottawa. Terrace Corporation unveiled the original proposal for the arena’s development at a press conference in September of 1989. The proposal intended to include a hotel and a 20,500 seat arena across 100 acres of land, surrounded by a mini-city that would be called West Terrace.

The arena was designed primarily with ice hockey in mind but quickly found that it was the perfect place to host great basketball games which are the most common athletics to be played there. What makes the venue special is how accommodating it is for a variety of tastes with six restaurants on-site, as well as a fitness club. Though the restaurants are only open on game days. The venue also sports several concession stands and a merchandise store next to the east entrance for fans of The Ottawa Senators.

One of Ottawa’s biggest arenas has now become one of the best arenas for sports fans and concert-goers alike.
